OUR MISSION

Connecting People to Life in Christ and Community

HOW WE LIVE OUT OUR MISSION

Worship Always

At the center of life in Christ is a lifestyle of worship. We begin each week gathered in worship, the heartbeat of our life together. We leave equipped to worship throughout the week in our homes, workplaces, and neighborhoods.

Connect Intentionally

Church is more than a service to attend; it’s a community where you’re known, loved, and connected to each other and to life in Christ. Meaningful relationships don’t happen by accident. They are built through intentional connection, shared experiences, and spiritual growth. Whether it’s through community groups, shared meals, church retreats, or just being present, we walk through life together with purpose and with faith.

Grow Continuously

Life in Christ is a life-long journey of transformation. We grow together by equipping everyone to serve, offering biblical and theological education, and preparing each person to be faithful stewards of their time, talents, and resources. We also encourage ongoing spiritual formation through prayer and Scripture.

Reach Lovingly

Our life in Christ compels us to reach others with the love of Christ. Rooted in the vision of our founding in 1966, we continue to connect our diverse community to life in Christ and community. We equip people to share their faith, facilitate ministries that serve our community, and partner with others—both locally and globally—to extend the kingdom of God.

OUR CORE VALUES

We are part of a network of churches called the Evangelical Covenant Church. We are Evangelical in the sense that we believe Jesus is Good News for all people. You can find out more about this network by perusing covchurch.org.

The Evangelical Covenant Church seeks to form and nurture communities that are deeply committed to Jesus Christ and passionately engage in Christ’s mission in the world.

As a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, we distinctively value:

The Centrality of the Word of God

The Bible is central to all we do. We believe God’s Word is true and transformative. It is the standard for what we believe and how we live.

The Necessity of the New Birth

We believe a real relationship with Jesus radically transforms our daily lives, as though born again to a whole new way of life.

A Commitment to the Whole Mission of the Church

We believe our mission touches every aspect of life. We share the good news of Jesus and practice compassion, mercy, and justice in His name. As mission friends (an early name for the Covenant Church), we partner together to extend Christ’s mission in our local community, across Chicagoland, and around the world.

The Church as a Fellowship of Believers

We view the church not as a building, institution, or a worship service, but as a family of believers. As brothers and sisters, we seek to express our unity in diversity along with those from every tribe, tongue, nation, and generation. In this community, everyone is encouraged to use their gifts to build up the body of Christ.

A Counscious Dependence on the Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is given to every believer to guide their lives, grow their character, and empower them for service. As a church, we strive to follow the Holy Spirit’s leading in all we do. We consider every meeting a prayer meeting, seeking the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit.

The Reality of Freedom in Christ

As we live out these affirmations, we honor one another’s freedom to differ on matters where the Bible and Christian tradition allow room for interpretation. In a divided world, we strive to live by the historic maxim: “In essentials, unity; in nonessentials, liberty; in all things, charity.” As a diverse community, we commit to treating one another and our differences with kindness, understanding, and grace as we pursue unity in Christ.

We also affirm the historic Apostles Creed and Nicene Creed.
