Immerse Devotional
We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. (From 2 Corinthians, Immerse pg 154) I put my three children on a rotation of “Kitchen Chores” years ago. The upside (at least in theory) is that they work together to clean the kitchen every day. The downside is that we break a lot of dishes. More than once a houseguest has ended their stay at our home by presenting us with a set of new soup bowls or dinner glasses. Having spent the past few days inconvenienced by the fact that most of ours were broken, they knew what kind of gift we could use. If I had something precious—as precious as the light of God the Creator, the glory from the face of Jesus Christ—I wouldn’t put it in the same dishes my children clear and clean. I know just how easily they break, how often we lose the contents they hold. But this is just what God did with us in Christ, through the Spirit. Paul describes this transcendent light of the glory of God and says God placed it in our hearts. Yes, us. We--fragile clay jars--contain this divine treasure. Paul is not naïve about what this means. He describes us as pressed on every side, hunted, knocked down, in constant danger of death—but not destroyed. Somehow, even as the clay that holds us together chips and cracks and breaks, God’s power and light shines through. It’s clear that this comes from God and not from us. And so, we never give up. Where do you see God’s light of creation and glory in your own jar of clay? |

Community Board
The Community Board is a space for us to... Book Give Away: If anyone has been wanting to read "THE REASON FOR GOD" by Tim Keller, I am done and will pass it on. -Susan Aarseth Selling or Donating a Car: My brother-in-law is currently studying at a seminary. Unfortunately, their family's minivan, which they relied on for daily transportation, has recently broken down beyond repair. They urgently need a vehicle to help manage everyday responsibilities, such as attending classes and running errands, but they have very limited funds. If you know anyone who has a vehicle they might be willing to sell or, even better, donate, please reach out to Pastor Zachs, outreach@faithecc.org or 331.236.0316. Your assistance would mean the world to them! Thank you! Ladies of Faith Scotland Trip: every 3 years we plan a trip abroad filled with fun and adventure. This year we are traveling to Scotland- exploring the Isle of Arran, Isle of Islay, and Loch Lomand. We have a spot open to join the trip. Dates are August 12 to 20. If this peaks your interest and you would like the details, please contact Jean Austin or Terri Bartholomay. Black + Evangelical documentary Premiere: you are invited to the documentary premiere of Black + Evangelical, a collaborative project between The Center of Applied Christian Ethics (CACE) at Wheaton College and Christianity Today. Black + Evangelical is a feature-length documentary that profiles the history, struggles, and contributions of African American evangelicals. It challenges us to hear anew the voices of these men and women whose unique theological and social journeys have much to say about challenges faced by today's church. Friday, February 21, 7PM, Barrows Auditorium, Billy Graham Hall. Host Geneva College Choir Students: The choir from Geneva College, PA is giving a concert at New Covenant Church in Naperville on Sunday, March 16. They are looking for people to host college students for the night after the concert. Hosts would pick students up from the concert, give them a place to sleep (they can bring sleeping bags), feed them breakfast, and make sure they get back to their bus in the morning (probably in Wheaton or Warrenville). If you would be willing to host one or more students, please contact Wendy Smith, peterwendysmith@gmail.com. Ask to borrow items
