When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that you… may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.  (From Ephesians, Immerse pg 220)

Have you ever tried to talk to someone so bursting with excitement they could hardly get their words out? Or watched a toddler opening birthday presents, or on an Easter Egg hunt, overcome with delight at each new discovery?

These are the images that come to mind when I “listen” to Paul in Ephesians. I dare you to try reading this letter aloud, in one sitting, without bursting into a big smile at least once. Paul is just so excited.

And no wonder: God has revealed a long-hidden mystery, in Christ. And chosen us! We can see now that God is rich in mercy, and in his love poured out grace and peace upon us. Now none of us are strangers, but citizens, one body, God’s people.

This man is in prison, but his enthusiasm for the good news of Jesus keeps bursting out, overflowing. Can you imagine watching Paul dictate this letter? I imagine him starting out calm and clear but getting distracted by excitement, caught up in a fast run-on sentence about the incredible, mysterious truth of God’s love and power, made real and full in us, in Christ—until he’s waving his arms around in doxology.  

The news is that good friends. Will you take a moment to rejoice in God’s love today?

We invite you to journey together through Lent in the following ways:

1. Weekly Communion- Every Sunday in Lent, we will practice confession and observe Holy Communion together.
2. Fasting + Prayer- We are joining with other Covenant churches in our area in a corporate fast on Wednesdays from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. We will be praying especially for refugees and immigrants in DuPage County, as well as other prayer topics we will send to you each week. 
3. Wednesdays: Praise & Prayer + Soup Supper- light soup supper from 5:30-6:30 pm; service of praise and prayer from 6:30-7:15 pm in the sanctuary.
4. Almsgiving- We encourage you to adopt a charity or missionary to give an extra love offering to during each week in Lent.

-My first cousin (Stacey) had open heart surgery this past week to repair a growing aneurysm in his aorta. The extent of the aneurysm was more complex than expected and required a more extensive surgery - nearly 9 hours. Recovery is slow and he continues to experience setbacks in ICU—ongoing internal bleeding requiring several blood transfusions, fluid buildup in his heart and lungs, inability to swallow, and ongoing AFIB. - Ben Franklin

-Praise that a lot of behavioral difficulties have lessened. Continued prayers for me to have wisdom in working with the students but also that they might have a change in heart that I might still be able to bless them. - Stephanie Mahn

-Selling or Donating a Car: My brother-in-law is currently studying at a seminary. Unfortunately, their family's minivan, which they relied on for daily transportation, has recently broken down beyond repair. They urgently need a vehicle to help manage everyday responsibilities, such as attending classes and running errands, but they have very limited funds.
