Journeying Together Through Lent
Each year, the church invites us into the 40-day season of Lent, a journey that leads us to the celebration of Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday. Lent begins with our Ash Wednesday service on February 18 at 6:30 PM. This season calls us into intentional discipleship through confession, repentance, sacrifice, and renewed focus on Jesus’ death on the cross. Traditionally, the church practices fasting, prayer, and almsgiving, walking these rhythms together as a community. We invite you to journey through Lent together in the following ways: Scripture Reading Our Lenten sermon series, The Passion of Christ, will guide us through Jesus’ journey to the cross. We invite you to join a corporate reading plan focused on Christ’s Passion. Click the "Learn More Here" link below to see the full reading plan. Fasting We invite the church to participate in a corporate fast throughout Lent. You can fast from screens, being under-rested, food on Sunday mornings, constant background noise, spending money on ourselves, etc. We will "break the fast" together on Sunday mornings at the communion table, where we remember that Christ is the one who truly satisfies. In the 40 days of Lent, Sundays are not counted, so after we have "broken the fast" together, we will leave our time of worship and communion together to enjoy the good things God has given us. The purpose of fasting is the intention of our hearts: letting go of something in our lives so we can intentionally reorient our lives toward God. Fasting from food is not healthy for everyone and is not recommended for those who struggle with disordered eating or their relationship with their bodies and/or food. Please choose the kind of fast that is appropriate for your physical and spiritual health. If you are considering fasting from food, learn more about how to do so safely HERE. Almsgiving During Sunday offerings, we will also invite you to support our Tiger Breakfast Ministry. As we have given up something during our fast, we encourage you to give toward providing breakfast for a student. Wednesday Soup Suppers & Real Presence Each Wednesday in Lent, join us for a light soup supper from 5:30–6:15 PM in the Lounge, followed by Real Presence, a service of prayer and communion, from 6:15–7:00 PM in the Sanctuary. Click here to sign up to bring soup. Spiritual Companionship: Walking Together Toward the Cross Lent is not meant to be walked alone. Throughout these forty days, we are creating intentional spaces for spiritual support and care. Everyone is invited to find a partner or form a Triad for the season of Lent. Click here if you'd like help being partnered with others. We look forward to how God will meet us through these shared practices. May His grace and love transform us as we seek Him anew this Lent. A teacher who is in contact with the young woman is asking for the following help: 1) support getting her drivers license (covering cost or a connection to driving lessons at a cheaper rate than the normal cost), 2) housing that is free or affordable for her low income (she works in Oswego so being close to her job would be ideal), 3) pray for this young woman to walk faithfully with God as she has recently rededicated her life to Christ. Contact Stephanie Mahn if you feel led to support this young woman or have any questions. Looking for Affordable Housing: Many of you may know that I was looking for new housing arrangements last year before my lease expired. It now has become a necessity to find an affordable place to live. I have lived independently, but at this time would prefer renting a room w/in a home, sharing an apartment w/ someone else you may know, or at the very least a more affordable single studio or one bedroom apartment.
